Brawn Media | 1012021 | Company - Private | 34093902 | 2020/7/7 17:00 | EASY | NEGATIVE | United States | NO_OFFER | I got two interviews with Brawn Media. The first initial interview went very well, however, the second interview, that was supposed to be with Donna & another higher up was very negative. I saw online the negative reviews towards Donna and the company in general so a lot of my questions were centered about leadership. However, Donna failed to even show up to my interview blaming it on a "client call" that went over. My interview lasted for an hour and was at 9 am in the morning so obviously this was an excuse and not true. She also never sent a follow-up email apologizing and never bothered reaching out. The other lady on the call was very rude and unprofessional. When I started asking leadership questions concerning her and Donna she immediately got defensive and her body language changed. She became very rude and began insulting me and my past company.Stay away from this company. All the reviews you have read about Donna are true. RED FLAG #1. Having just left a toxic company, and delt with a few companies in my time, I could tell this was not the place to work. You'll find many of these small agencies where they don't want to pay adequately but insist that you have too notch skill sets. The office is small, and I could tell that the 3 people I interviewed with were not happy at all. I can't say this is a bad place, but my advice is to stay clear of places that demonstrate a lack of respect in salary, as an indication of their values of a company. I also sent a follow up email thanking them, and received no response. I am actually relieved that I didn't get an offer, as the reviews here solidified my gut feeling, that I would be miserable there. | Graphic Designer/Web Developer | 2 | 0 | 是 | ONLINE | 否 | My experience in graphic design

MasteryPrep | 1014632 | Company - Private | 74067677 | 2023/1/1 8:00 | 2023/2/28 20:55 | VERY_DIFFICULT | NEGATIVE | Phila, PA | NO_OFFER | The interview process was lengthy, repetitive, and an overall unpleasant experience. I made it to the fourth stage, and was not offered the job; I can’t honestly say I’m that upset. The first stage: complete an interest assessment, where you are asked to write a mini autobiography ; answer two SAT-level questions, then choose from a multiple choice list which skill you think the questions are covering; and finally, choose a topic and write a 1-3 page teacher script. I had 10 days to complete it, attach it, and send it back to them. Firstly, the attachment was a Word document with both spelling and grammatical errors, and secondly, this was a lot of time and effort just for the first stage of an interview - I had yet to even speak with an actual person, yet they wanted you to include your personality in your script. The second stage was a screening Zoom interview with HR, and I will say it was the most disrespectful of the interviews. The main interviewer who asked me questions made no eye contact with me, didn’t smile or greet me, and was generally unpleasant. The other interviewer on the call couldn’t answer three of my five questions, even though they were general like, What does a typical day in the role look like? The third stage was the best stage of the three, with a three-person panel asking the more specific questions about my experience, what I would bring to the role, a difficult experience I worked through, etc. All three interviewers were pleasant and friendly. The fourth stage was, in my opinion, a complete disaster of a setup. This is a Zoom call with the two interviewers, and they actually cancelled on me the day before so I had to reschedule. However, before you even get to the call, you need to provide a more in-depth sample of work, following their exact protocols, with a sample question they give you. You need to make both a student and teacher page, but make sure to inject your personality, but also make sure to anticipate the students’ responses. I did all they asked, and I will estimate I took a good five hours of time completing the assignment. The day of the Zoom comes, they are five minutes late, and it went downhill from there. It was clear to me, right from the start, that the two interviewers were NOT on the same page about either my work, what they were looking for, or both. It was a two hour interview, in which they gave me some background about the job and the day-to-day, then we went over my assignment and they gave me feedback. Then we took a 30 minute hiatus so I could take their feedback and “fix” my assignment; this was terrible, as I had no idea which person I was supposed to be pleasing - one interviewer wanted me to be more sarcastic and add more life into it; the other clearly did not want that and wanted me to following the sample script word-for-word. I did my best, and then after 30 minutes, got back on and we looked it over again. I basically rewrote the entire thing, and still, neither one could tell me what they wanted. It was extremely confusing. But the best part, and I’m not kidding, during the interview, one interviewer was answering a question of mine and proceeded to comb their hair during speaking. That’s right, just pulled out a comb and gave a quick groom. I was speechless. Is that acceptable now? Should I have stopped and applied some lip balm and mascara? I didn’t even know what to think. I got the rejection email this morning, and from start to finish, this process, from my applying to the rejection email, took just under two months. I should have listened to my gut after the second interview and just bailed out, because who doesn’t make eye contact with a person you might potentially hire?? But the job was remote, which is what I was looking for, and I was most interested in writing curriculum. I was also discouraged by their salary - $50000 a year, and after researching similar positions around the country, MasteryPrep is about $8000-10000 less than average. I would not encourage anyone to seek employment with this company. | Curriculum Developer | 1 | 0 | 是 | ONLINE | 否 | 60 | What experience do you have with test prep? How would you improve sales? An interview is meant to be a discussion and opportunity to BOTH parties to ask questions and learn about the role. Why would I put hours in on an unpaid assignment before I would be able to determine if this company would be a good fit for me? Clearly, it would not be a good fit as I found their interview process showed them to be arrogant and not valuing candidate's time.

Step 1: Submit video introducing yourself and the company to a mock class of students. Step 2: Video interview mock teaching 2 lessons from the ACT Step 3: Group interview with the Director of InstructionStep 4: A "paid" 4 days of 6 hour "training-to-hire" classes. Requires hours of prep every night (that you don't get paid for) and mock teaching the lessons you prepared in front of your group and trainer (who gives you praise and criticisms). Honestly by this point every day was challenging and nerve-racking and they pay you only $50 a day for 6 hours which is less than minimum wage (And you still technically don't know if you have the job yet!) The whole thing felt like way too much for an 8 week contract (although most people apparently renew) training was too unorganized and we hardly learned anything, and information from HR was communicated super last minute with critical information missing. I noticed a bunch of different red flags but decided to take the job anyways because of the great pay. Honestly, in order to learn how to be instructor be prepared to not rely on training, put in a bunch of prep hours on your own that you won't be paid for, and teach yourself. | Virtual Instructor | 1 | 0 | 是 | ONLINE | 否 | 14 | Q: Name 3 qualities of a good instructor? They were cagey about the details of future payments which I saw as the first red flag. In the 3rd round, I was told training is a large portion of the job. I pressed on before completing the training about post-hire work life. Turns out the company uses a "bait and switch" method with pay. They were offering one-third of the salary for all training in the future, which was lower than minimum wage. There were other red flags as well so I pulled my name from consideration. While they have seemingly good reviews on Glassdoor, I would be cautious of this company, something seems off. | ACT/SAT Tutor | 4 | 0 | 是 | ONLINE | 否 | 14 | What are your strengths in a classroom setting?
