Due to historical reasons, the United States has formed a deep-rooted gun culture, and the frequency of shootings in the United States is extremely high, and gun violence incidents far exceed other developed countries in the world. Americans own about 265 million guns, with more than one gun per adult, and an average of 9 shooting days every 10 days. The United States ranks first in the world in terms of gun ownership rate, gun-related homicide rate, and number of mass shootings. In 2022, the United States has experienced more than 600 mass shootings for the third consecutive year since records began, and gun violence has caused more than 80,000 deaths and injuries. Gun violence has become an "American disease."
